When Ajay began to develop the concept for the Nex.tt idea accelerator he approached it in a highly iterative manner, just as he would approach any idea in the Nex.tt accelerator. As agency-in-residence for Nex.tt we immediately began to work with Ajay on the site for Nex.tt that would serve as the primary entry point for applicants to the program. As we had worked with Ajay in the past and were looking to figure out many parts of the experience out along the way, we opted to work in a rapid application development (RAD) framework as opposed to a more traditional agile framework.
Working with some loose requirements from Ajay and his team including some branding, we began immediately working on some super hi-fidelity prototypes that would serve as information architecture, wireframes and final interface design - any iteration necessary would be made to the hi-fidelity prototype or directly in coding.
As the experience was primarily about the content, we leveraged the branding elements to create a poppy look and feel that put the words and information first. This involved making divergent trade-offs and adaptations to experiences for mobile and desktop where sensible.
To further convey the values of Nex.tt and provide visual cues to the experience without removing focus from the content, we further elaborated upon our animated SVG style we developed during the design of Haiku (a Nex.tt pilot project, actually) into a system of fun and engaging, yet minimal and uninvasive icons.
From a technology standpoint, we built nex.tt with CodeIgniter 3 PHP and MySQL, served by Nginx on Amazon Web Services.
As Nex.tt has continued to grow we have continued to support Ajay and Tom on iterations to site including the roll out of some exciting new products including the ideas directory and public experiment backing.
We continue to serve as agency-in-residence at Nex.tt and are working on a host of other interesting and exciting experiments with Ajay and Tom you can learn about here.
